This slipmat is also a phenakistoscope, an early animation device that creates the illusion of a moving picture when a camera's shutter blurs its rotation.
The chains on the slipmat will appear to rotate forwards & backwards as the disc rotates at 33RPM.
To view the illusion, watch the spinning disc through your camera phone. You can also use a strobe light app to see with the naked eye. Detailed viewing instructions here.
